Analisis Perubahan Stok Karbon Akibat Perubahan Tutupan Lahan Gambut Di Kabupaten Pelalawan Tahun 2018-2024

ABSTRACT
Pelalawan Regency is one of the regencies in Riau Province with extensive
peatland coverage. Human activities cause peatland cover in Pelalawan Regency
to change from year to year, so it is necessary to monitor changes in peatland cover
and carbon stocks in Pelalawan Regency. The purpose of this study is to calculate
changes in peatland cover area and changes in carbon stocks resulting from
changes in peatland cover in Pelalawan Regency from 2018 to 2024, with the aim
of providing recommendations for mitigation efforts that can be implemented to
reduce the impacts arising from these changes in peatland cover. The results of this
study indicate that carbon stocks in peatland cover in Pelalawan Regency from
2018 to 2024 experienced changes, with a trend of carbon loss. This trend peaked
in the 2019-2020 period, resulting in a carbon loss of 2,389,925.72 tons of CO2-
eq. The land cover classes that experienced the largest changes were the Open Land
Class of 48,066.08 ha to the Swamp Scrub Class of 4,164.56 ha, the Secondary
Swamp Forest Class of 10.18 ha, the Plantation Forest Class of 41,226.84 ha, the
Plantation Class of 2,628.55 ha, and the Rice Field Class of 35.96 ha in the 2022-
2023 period. The recommended mitigation efforts Implementing sustainable land
and forest management (SLFM), economic incentives and green policies, as well as
community education and empowerment efforts.
