ABSTRACT
A recloser is one of the main protection devices used by PLN in medium distribution networks (20 kV) that functions as an automatic safety device capable of separating disturbed areas and securing undisturbed areas. This study was conducted to evaluate the existing recloser parameter settings, namely the Istiqomah recloser at the Rusa GI New Garuda Sakti Pekanbaru feeder. The research method used was to determine the recloser settings by calculating the equivalent impedance of the source, transformer, and line. The next method was to determine the largest and smallest fault currents that occurred on the feeder. After that, the pick-up current and the operating time of the OCR and GFR reclosers were calculated using inverse and instantaneous curves. Short-circuit and lightning fault tests were then conducted. Based on the calculation results, the proposed recloser settings had a faster response time than the existing recloser. The analysis results showed that the proposed OCR recloser settings were more sensitive and could operate faster with a 39% difference in operating time in the case of short-circuit faults at fault points ≥ 25%. The results of the proposed GCR recloser settings were more sensitive and could operate faster with a working time difference of around 38-39% in the case of short-circuit faults at a fault point ≥ 75%. This indicates that the proposed recloser settings are proven to provide faster protection performance compared to existing reclosers.
