Pemanfaatan Spent Bleaching Earth Ekstraksi Sebagai Bahan Campuran Pembuatan Batu Bata
ABSTRAK
The growth of the vegetable oil refining industry generates a large amount of solid waste known as Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE), which can cause environmental pollution if not properly managed. This study aims to utilize extracted SBE as an additive material in brick production to reduce environmental impact while producing an eco-friendly alternative building material. The research was conducted by mixing SBE into clay with variations of 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% by weight. Tests were performed on visual appearance, porosity, dimensions, compressive strength, and volume shrinkage according to Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 15-2094-2000. The results show that the addition of SBE significantly affects the physical and mechanical properties of the bricks. At 10% and 20% variations, the bricks exhibited smoother surfaces, lower porosity, and adequate compressive strength suitable for non-structural applications. However, at 30% SBE, porosity increased and compressive strength decreased considerably. Overall, the utilization of up to 20% SBE as an additive material provides optimal results and is recommended as a sustainable, economical, and environmentally friendly alternative in brick manufacturing.
