Perbedaan Etiologi Apendisitis Antara Anak Dan Dewasa Di Rsud Arifin Achmad Tahun 2023-2024
Appendicitis is an inflammatory process of the appendix and is one of the common causes of acute abdominal pain that often leads patients to seek care in the emergency department. In 2021, there were approximately 17 million new cases of appendicitis worldwide, with a mortality total of 29,300 deaths. In adults, appendiceal obstruction is generally caused by fecaliths, whereas in children it is more commonly associated with lymphoid tissue hyperplasia. These differing etiologies across age groups indicate the need for specific considerations in evaluation and management. This study aims to determine the differences in the etiology of appendicitis between children and adults at Arifin Achmad General Hospital during the years 2023–2024. This research utilized an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 95 patients who underwent appendectomy at Arifin Achmad General Hospital, with total sampling as the sampling technique. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the Chi-square test. The results showed that the adult age group experienced more cases of appendicitis, with 50 patients (52.6%), compared to the pediatric group with 45 patients (47.4%). The most common cause of appendicitis was lymphoid hyperplasia (73.7%), followed by appendicolith (26.3%). Bivariate analysis demonstrated a significant difference between age groups and the etiology of lymphoid hyperplasia (p < 0.05) as well as appendicolith (p < 0.05). Appendicolith was more frequently found in the adult group, whereas lymphoid hiperplasia occurred more often in the pediatric group.
