This study aims to determine the improvement of the Introduction, Connection, Application, and Reflection (ICARE) learning model in improving students' conceptual understanding of the topic of buffer solutions. This type of research is an experimental study with a randomized control pretest posttest design, which was conducted on two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The results showed that the conceptual understanding of the experimental group students was higher than the control group, which had an average of 62.94 in the experimental group and 42.55 in the control group. In addition, the increase in the n-gain test was also in the high category, namely 0.92, which means that the application of the ICARE learning model can improve students' conceptual understanding. The highest increase for the conceptual understanding indicator was in the indicator of providing examples and non-examples of the concept, with an n-gain value of 0.9, which indicates that students were able to associate concepts concretely. The implications of this study indicate that the ICARE learning model is not only effective in improving conceptual understanding but also contributes to creating meaningful, reflective learning that is oriented towards building students' capacity to think critically and sustainably in facing future challenges.
