Pemanfaatan Cangkang Buah Karet Sebagai Bahan Baku Pembuatan Arang Aktif Dengan Aktivator Seng Klorida (Zncl2)
ABSTRACT
Rubber fruit shells are type of plantation waste that can be used as a raw
material for the production of activated carbon. The purpose of this study is to
produce activated carbon from rubber fruit shells with the best concentration using
zinc chloride activator in accordance with SNI No. 06-3730-1995. The research was
carried out experimentally using a complete random design (CRD) with five
treatments and three replications. The treatment in this study was in the form of
variations in ZnCl2 concentration, namely P1 (ZnCl2 20%), P2 (ZnCl2 25%), P3
(ZnCl2 30%), P4 (ZnCl2 35%), P5 (ZnCl2 40%). The observations parameter tested
included moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content, bound carbon
content, and iodine absorption. The data were analyzed statistically using the
analysis of variance, if Fcount ≥ Ftable then the treatment had a significant effect and
the analysis continued with Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the level of
5%. The results showed that increased ZnCl2 concentration had a significant effect
on all observations parameters. The selected of activated charcoal was found on P4
treatment (ZnCl2 35%) with a moisture content of 2.39%, ash content of 5.20%,
volatility content of 14.53%, carbon bound content of 77.88% and iodine absorption
of 838.85 mg/g.
