Dampak Lingkungan Akibat Penambangan Emas Tanpa Izin Di Kecamatan Sembilan Koto Kabupaten Dharmasraya Provinsi Sumatera Barat
ABSTRACT
Illegal gold mining has become a critical environmental issue in Sembilan Koto
District, Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra. This study aims to analyze the
environmental, social, and economic impacts caused by illegal mining activities in
the area. A qualitative research approach was used, supported by spatial analysis
using ArcGIS, field observations, water quality laboratory analysis, in-depth
interviews, and documentation. Spatial data analysis on land cover changes from
2003 to 2025 showed a significant increase in open land from 388.21 ha to 8,360.57
ha, indicating intensive deforestation primarily driven by illegal mining. Water
quality tests showed a decline in water quality in the Batang Momong River, as
evidenced by increased levels of BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), DO
(Dissolved Oxygen), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), TSS (Total Suspended
Solid) and TDS (Total Dissolved Solid) that exceeded national water quality
standards. A decline in environmental quality and an increased risk of erosion,
flooding, and land degradation were found. Socially, illegal mining has led to
changes in community livelihoods, migration of workers from outside the area, and
increased potential for conflict. Economically, this activity provides short-term
income for local communities but contributes to long-term instability due to
environmental degradation. This study concludes that illegal mining in 9 Koto
poses serious ecological and socio-economic risks.
