Persepsi Masyarakat Tentang Perburuan Satwa Liar Di Suaka Margasatwa Giam Siak Kecil Studi Kasus Di Desa Tasik Tebing Serai Kabupaten Bengkalis
ABSTRACT
This study explores community perceptions of wildlife hunting around the
Giam Siak Kecil Wildlife Reserve, with a case study in Tasik Tebing Serai Village,
Bengkalis Regency. A qualitative approach was applied using purposive sampling
and snowball sampling techniques to collect primary data through in-depth
interviews, supported by secondary data from literature studies. The study
highlights several key points that address the research objectives. It shows that the
community views wildlife as living creatures whose existence must be protected,
but may be utilized within reasonable and non-excessive limits. The community
also agrees with the implementation of laws and sanctions regulating wildlife
hunting. In addition, the community recognizes that forests must be preserved
because they provide many benefits for living beings. Several factors contribute to
wildlife hunting, including economic factors, limited conservation outreach,
cultural values, and hobbies. Among these factors, economic motives are the
primary cause of wildlife hunting, as wildlife has considerable economic value,
enabling residents to gain additional income from selling hunted animals.
However, this activity does not provide significant economic benefits for the
people of Tasik Tebing Serai Village, because hunting is not their main livelihood.
