Daya Pemangsaan Cecopet (Euborellia Annulata Fabricus) Terhadap Ulat Bawang Merah (Spodoptera Exigua Hubner) Di Laboratorium
ABSTRACT
Red onion (Allium cepa L.) is an important horticultural commodity with
high economic value in Indonesia. One of the obstacles in red onion cultivation is
pest infestation, namely the onion armyworm (Spodoptera exigua Hubner). The use
of the earwig predator (Euborellia annulata Fabricus) can be an alternative for
natural control of S. exigua. This study aimed to determine the predation rate of E.
annulata on S. exigua larvae in the laboratory. The study was conducted at the Plant
Pest Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, from January to March
2025. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of five
treatments and four replicates. The treatments were one female adult, one male
adult, two female adults, two male adults, and a pair of E. annulata adults. The
results showed that the cecopet predator (E. annulata Fabricus) was able to prey on
the onion armyworm pest (S. exigua Hubner). The introduction of two female
predators resulted in a predation rate of 20.75 individuals/day with a high predation
percentage of 83%. The introduction of a pair of predators resulted in a predation
rate of 18.50 individuals/day with a predation percentage of 74%, followed by two
male predators at 17.00 individuals/day (68%), one female predator at 14.75
individuals/day (59%), and one male predator at 13.50 individuals/day with a
predation rate of 54%.
