Studi Pewarisan Karakter Komponen Hasil Persilangan Cabai Rawit Bhaskara Dan Genie
ABSTRACT
Chili pepper (Capsicum annum L.) is an important horticultural commodity with high economic value in Indonesia. National chili paper productivity in 2023 reached 7.05 t/ha, increased 4% from the previous year, but still needs improvement to meet increasing consumer demand. This study aimed to determine character inheritance and expected genetic advance from crossing Bhaskara and Genie chili papper varieties in F2 population. The research was conducted at Experimental Field and Plant Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University from January to August 2025, using biparental cross design with genetic materials consisting of parent 1 (P1) Bhaskara variety, parent 2 (P2) Genie variety, F1 population, and F2 population. Observation were made on nine quantitative characters including flowering time, harvest time, fruit weigh per plant, number of fruit per plant, weight per fruit, fruit length, fruit stalk length, fruit diameter, and fruit flesh thickness. Data were analyzed using Mahmud-Kramer heritability estimation method to culculate broad-sense heritability and expected genetic advance with 10% selection intensity. Result showed F2 population had higher variability and segregation comperated to F1. Broad-sense heritability values ranged from 0,07 – 0,76. Productivity characters showed high heritability, namely fruit weigh per palnt (0,56) and number of fruits per plant (0,51). The highest expected genetic advance was found in fruit weight per plant (117,35 g) and number of fruit per plant (99,27 fruits), indicating excellent selection potential for improving productivity.
