The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using illustrated
flashcards in teaching poetry writing to eleventh-grade students at SMK Multi
Mekanik Masmur. Writing poetry requires the ability to choose appropriate
diction, use suitable language styles, and organize ideas coherently. Initial
observations indicated that many students experienced difficulties in generating
ideas, selecting words, and expressing emotions poetically. Therefore, the
researcher implemented illustrated flashcards as visual stimuli to help students
develop ideas and imagination while writing poetry. This study employed an
experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design for two groups: an
experimental group that received the illustrated flashcard treatment, and a control
group that learned without the media. After the treatment, students’ poetry-writing
skills were tested again to measure learning improvement. The findings show that
the use of illustrated flashcards significantly assisted students in generating ideas,
selecting appropriate diction, and composing better poetry. Thus, illustrated
flashcards are proven to be effective in improving the poetry-writing abilities of
eleventh-grade students at SMK Multi Mekanik Masmur.
