This study aims to improve students' problem-solving ability in buffer solution material in grade XI MIPA SMAN 4 Pekanbaru by using the problem-based learning model. This study is an experimental study with a randomized control group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study consists of all Grade XI students at SMAN 4 Pekanbaru for the 2024/2025 academic year, comprising 7 classes, and the sample consists of 2 classes selected randomly: Class XI.5 as the experimental class and Class XI.6 as the control class. The experimental class was taught using the problem-based learning model, while the control class received instruction without the problem-based learning model. The research instrument consisted of buffer solution questions based on problem-solving ability indicators. Hypothesis testing using the t-test with α = 5% yielded t-calculated > t-table (4.614 > 1.988), so it can be concluded that the application of the problem-based learning model can improve students' problem-solving abilities in buffer solution material in class XI at SMAN 4 Pekanbaru
