Aplikasi Mulsa Organik Mucuna Bracteatadengan Kombinasi Pupuk Npk Dan Pupuk Hayati Terhadap Pertumbuhan Vegetatif Tanaman Talas (Colocasia Esculenta L.)
ABSTRACT
Taro (Colocasia esculenta L.) is a tuber commodity with economic value that has the potential as an alternative food source, but its productivity is still low due to decreasing soil fertility and low organic matter. This study aims to evaluate the effect of Mucuna bracteataorganic mulch application with a subsequent reduction in NPK fertilizer doses and the provision of biofertilizers on the vegetative growth of taro. The study was conducted at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University in May–August 2025 using a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design with five treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of 100% NPK, 75% NPK + biofertilizer + mulch 3 kg/m², 75% NPK + biofertilizer + mulch 1.5 kg/m², 50% NPK + biofertilizer + mulch 3 kg/m², and 50% NPK + biofertilizer + mulch 1.5 kg/m². The parameters observed included leaf stalk length, number of leaves, leaf area, leaf area index, stem diameter, chlorophyll content, soil temperature, and soil moisture. The results showed that the combination of 75% and 50% NPK fertilizer enriched with biofertilizer and Mucuna bracteatamulch produced vegetative growth equivalent to 100% NPK application in most of the observed parameters. This study showed that the use of Mucuna bracteatamulch and biofertilizer can reduce the need for inorganic NPK fertilizer by 25–50% without reducing the vegetative growth of taro.
