Etnobotani Tumbuhan Obat Oleh Masyarakat Desa Sopotinjak Kecamatan Batang Natal Kabupaten Mandailing Natal
ABSTRACT
The use of medicinal plants is an important part of the traditional healthcare system
of Indonesian communities and has been passed down from generation to
generation. However, this knowledge is mostly oral and is at risk of being lost as
time goes by. This study aims to identify the types of medicinal plants used by the
Mandailing tribe in Sopotinjak Village, Batang Natal District, Mandailing Natal
Regency. The research was conducted in August 2025 using a descriptive method
with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out
through semi-structured interviews with 30 respondents selected using purposive
and snowball sampling, field surveys, and the creation and identification of
herbariums. The results of the study show that the people of Sopotinjak Village
utilize various species of medicinal plants from various families, habitats, and habit
types. The most widely used part of the plant is the leaves, with various methods of
processing such as boiling, pounding, and mixing. The use of medicinal plants
includes the treatment of various groups of diseases and traditional health care. The
conclusion of this study shows that the ethnobotanical knowledge of the Sopotinjak
Village community is still well preserved and plays an important role in efforts to
preserve local knowledge and community-based medicinal plant conservation.
