Pertumbuhan Dan Hasil Bawang Merah (Allium Ascalonicum L.) Di Tanah Gambut Dengan Aplikasi Kompos Pelepah Kelapa Sawit Dan Biochar Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit
ABSTRACT
Shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.) are an important horticultural commodity with high economic and health value. In Riau, the increasing demand for shallots has not been matched by local production, mainly due to the dominance of peatlands with low fertility. The use of organic amendments such as oil palm frond compost and empty fruit bunch biochar can improve soil fertility and crop productivity. This study aimed to determine the effect of oil palm frond compost and empty fruit bunch (EFB) biochar, both individually and in combination, on the growth and yield of shallots grown on peat soil. The experiment was conducted using a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor was oil palm frond compost at four levels (0, 2, 4, and 6 tons/ha), and the second factor was empty fruit bunch biochar at three levels (2.5, 5, and 7.5 tons/ha). Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, harvest age, number of bulbs, bulb diameter, fresh bulb weight per plant, and dry bulb weight per plant. The data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test at a 5% significance level, Simple Linear Regression and Pearson Correlation analysis was performed. The results showed that the interaction between compost and biochar significantly affected the number of leaves, number of bulbs, bulb diameter, fresh bulb weight, and marketable bulb weight. The application of 6 tons/ha of compost combined with 7.5 tons/ha of biochar produced the best growth and yield performance, including increased plant height, bulb diameter, and bulb weight, and reduced harvest time. This study demonstrates that combining organic amendments derived from oil palm biomass can improve the fertility of peat soils and support sustainable shallot production in Riau.
