Rancangan Pabrik Green Diesel Proses UOP/Eni Ecofining Dengan Desain Alat Utama Kolom Distilasi Propana (T-301
ABSTRACT
The high dependence on fossil fuels has encouraged the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to develop environmentally friendly fuels. In addition to implementing the use of fuel from a mixture of diesel and fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) of 30 percent (B-30), the government is also encouraging the development of green diesel with crude palm oil (CPO) as its raw material. CPO has great potential to be used as a raw material for green diesel production. Green diesel, also known as second-generation biodiesel (G2), has the advantage of being able to achieve a cetane number of 70-90, while biodiesel is only able to achieve a cetane number of 50-65. Green diesel is a mixture of straight paraffin hydrocarbons with characteristics similar to conventional diesel fuel and better quality than biodiesel.
The production of green diesel from CPO involves three stages: raw material preparation, product formation, and product purification. The raw material preparation stage involves initial pretreatment of the CPO to remove impurities and improve its quality. The CPO undergoes degumming and bleaching to produce refined bleached degumming palm oil (RBDPO), which is one of the raw materials for green diesel production. The product formation stage consists of three stages: saturation, hydrocracking, and deoxygenation. Saturation removes double bonds in triglyceride molecules until they become saturated using hydrogen. Hydrocracking removes oxygen using the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) and decarboxylation (DCO) reaction pathways. The HDO reaction produces paraffins with an even number of carbon atoms, while the DCO reaction produces paraffins with an odd number of carbon atoms. The product purification stage involves hydroisomerization, which produces branched paraffins to achieve high-quality products.
The profitability analysis parameters of NPV, ROI, PBP, IRR, and BEP were obtained at Rp. 4,132,753,012,750.58 per year; 19.83%; 3.7 years; 18.47%; and 40.74%. Based on these results, the construction of a green diesel plant with the UOP/Eni ecofining process in Dumai City can be declared feasible, prospective, and provides profitable investment opportunities. Sensitivity analysis to variations in raw material prices and product selling prices also shows that the factory's profitability is still feasible to be established.
