ABSTRACT
High-density polyethylene(HDPE)is apolymer producedof repeatingethylenemonomer units with the chemical formula (C2H4)n. HDPE is produced through the polymerization process of ethylene, 1-butene, hydrogen, a Ziegler-Natta catalyst, and the addition of hexane as a solvent. Demand for HDPE in Indonesia continues to increase, but local HDPE production is insufficient to meet domestic demand. This presents an opportunity for Indonesia to become an HDPE producer. An HDPE plant is planned to be built in Anyar, Serang Regency, Banten Province, with a production capacity of 250,000 tons/year.
HDPE production will be carried out using the Hostalen Advanced Cascade Process (ACP) technology, an innovative polymerization process using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst, introduced by LyondellBasell in 2004. The main advantage of this process is its flexibility in producing HDPE with controlled weight molecular distribution.The Hostalen ACP process occurs in the slurry phase in three continuous CSTR reactors, operating at a temperature of 85°C and a pressure of 8.5 bar, with reaction conversions of 60%, 19%, and 17%, respectively, per reactor. The resulting HDPE reaches a purity of 99.99%.The HDPE plant's utilities include a steam supply unit, a water supply unit, and a power supply unit. The plant's equipment is equipped with safety and process control instruments to ensure efficient production.
The HDPE plant has a fixed capital investment of IDR 3.136 Trillion, a working capital investment of IDR 784 Billion, for a total capital investment of IDR 3.921 Trillion, and a total productioncost of IDR3.899Trillion.The HDPE product issold with anestimated annual revenue of IDR 5.357 Trillion. The economic feasibility analysis shows an NPV of 4.903 Trillion rupiah, with a discounted internal rate of return (IRR) of 18.66%, a break-even point (BEP) of 47%, and a payback period (PBP) of 3.36 years. The economic feasibility analysis indicates that the HDPE plant is feasible and a profitable investment.
