This study aims to describe the forms of idioms and their idiomatic meanings used in the sports section of the Riau Pos newspaper. This type of research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The data in this study are idioms contained in the sports section of the Riau Pos May 2024 edition, which were obtained through reading and note-taking techniques. The researcher carefully listened to the contents of the sports news text and noted expressions identified as idioms. The results show that there are full idioms and partial idioms based on Chaer's theory, as well as idioms categorized according to their constituent elements, such as body parts, colors, natural objects, plants, animals, and numbers. The use of idioms in this sports section serves to strengthen expression, embellish the language style, and convey figurative meaning effectively, thus becoming one of the journalistic language strategies in building reader appeal and emotion.
