Rancangan Pabrik Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) Copolymer Teknologi Mitsui Chemicals/ Toyo Engineering Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Polimerisasi 1,3 Butadiene (R-101)
ABSTRACT
ABS (Acrylonitrile Polybutadiene Styrene) is a thermoplastic polymer consisting of three different monomers namely acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene. In 2022, Indonesia imported Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) as much as 61,406,557 tons/year. This factory proposal aims to produce ABS as much as 35,000 tons/year in order to reduce the amount of domestic imports, increase foreign exchange and create new jobs. The location of the ABS plant is built in the Cilegon industrial area, precisely close to PT Krakatau Tirta Industri, Citangkil District, Cilegon City, Banten Province.
The process used to produce ABS is by Mass Polymerization reaction between Acrylonitirle, 1,3 Butadiene, and Styrene. The reaction takes place in a continuous stirred tank reactor at operating conditions of 76oC and 1 atm pressure with ABS conversion in the reaction of 99.5%. The ABS plant utilities are water treatment system, power generation system, steam generation system and cold water supply system. The water source is obtained from the Cidanau River with a total water demand of 15,052.37 kg/hour. Electricity is supplied from PLN, with a generator as a backup in case of interruption in PLN supply. The electricity demand supplied by PLN for the ABS plant is 666.687 kW. The fuel used to burn air in the combustion chamber is liquefied natural gas (LNG) amounting to 131.086 kg/hour. The waste generated from the ABS manufacturing process is 351813.91 L/day. The plant process control system uses sensors and controllers with safety instruments such as alarms, gate valves, hand valves, check valves, pressure safety valves and anti-surge control valves.
The results of the profitability analysis of the Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene plant are seen from calculations in the form of Return On Investment (ROI), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Pay Back Period (PBP), Net Present Value (NPV) and Break Event Point (BEP), with respective values of 28.73%; 11.72%; 2.58 years; Rp 742,446,831,654.96; and 45.92%. Based on the calculation results obtained, the Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene plant is feasible to build.
