Jenis Dan Komposisi Marine Debris Di Perairan Ekosistem Mangrove Pelabuhan Tanjung Buton Kabupaten Siak Provinsi Riau
This research was conducted from August to September 2024 in the mangrove ecosystem areasurrounding Tanjung Buton Port, Siak Regency,Riau Province. The study aimed to identify the types and composition of marine debris found in the mangrove ecosystem around the port area. The research employed a survey method with purposive sampling at three observation stations. Each station consisted of 50-meter transect lines divided into 10×5-meter quadrats. All marine debris collected was identified, counted, and weighed based on its type. In addition, oceanographic parameters such as current direction and velocity were measured to determine their influence on the distribution of marine debris.
The results showed that a total of 1,349 debris items were collected with a total weight of 90,895 grams. Plastic was the dominant type, accounting for approximately 80%of thetotal volume, followed by wood, whichcontributed about 42% of the total weight, as well as other types such as glass, rubber, fabric, and coconut waste. The highest amount and weight of debris were found at Station 1, which is located near the port area, due to intense human activities and relatively slow current velocity (average 0.167 m/s). The accumulation of plastic debris in the mangrove area potentially hinders root growth and mangrove regeneration, thereby reducing the ecological function of the mangrove ecosystem.
This study emphasizes the importance of integrated marine debris management through the implementation of the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), increased public awareness, and continuous monitoring to preserve the sustainability of mangrove ecosystems in the Tanjung Buton Port area. Keywords: Marine debris, mangrove, Tanjung Buton Port, plastic, coastal ecosystem.
