ABSTRACT
Eggplant is an important horticultural crop with high nutritional and economic value. In Riau Province, cultivation is increasingly directed toward marginal lands such as Inceptisols, which are characterized by low fertility, acidic pH, limited nutrient availability, and low organic matter. Improving eggplant productivity on such soils requires integrated fertilization strategies combining organic and inorganic inputs. Cow urine based liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) provides organic nutrients and bioactive compounds, while NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer supplies essential macronutrients. This study aimed to evaluate the interaction and individual effects of cow urine LOF and NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer and to determine the optimal combination for enhancing the growth and yield of eggplant grown on Inceptisol. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau. A factorial Completely Randomized Design was used with two factors: cow urine LOF at four concentrations (0, 150, 300, and 450 ml/l) and NPK 16:16:16 fertilizer at three rates (100, 200, and 300 kg/ha), with three replications. Observed variables included plant height, days to first flowering, days to first harvest, number of fruits per plant, fruit diameter, fruit length, and fruit weight per plant. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by the Honest Significant Difference test at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction between cow urine LOF and NPK fertilizer significantly accelerated first harvest and increased fruit diameter, fruit length, and fruit weight per plant. Cow urine LOF alone improved fruit size and yield, while NPK fertilizer mainly enhanced fruit diameter. The optimal treatment was the combination of 300 ml/l cow urine LOF and 300 kg/ha NPK 16:16:16 for improving eggplant productivity on Inceptisol.
