Karakteristik Geoteknik Variasi Campuran Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) Ekstraksi Dan Metakaolin Dengan Pasir
ABSTRACT
Poorly graded sand has an uneven particle size distribution, which may result in low bearing capacity, high permeability, and limited stability. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding extracted Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) and metakaolin on the geotechnical characteristics of poorly graded sand. The research was conducted experimentally in the laboratory using SD variations, consisting of sand and extracted SBE mixtures, and SDM variations, consisting of sand, extracted SBE, and metakaolin mixtures. In addition to the main SDM 1 to SDM 5 variations with 5% metakaolin content, SDM 6 was added to further evaluate the effect of increasing the metakaolin content to 10% at a sand composition of 80%. The tests included physical characteristics, compaction, unsoaked and soaked California Bearing Ratio (CBR), Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS), direct shear, and permeability. The results show that the sand is classified as poorly graded sand (SP), with Cu of 3.82 and Cc of 0.90, while the extracted SBE has a residual oil content of 1.80%. For SD 1 to SD 5 variations, the highest CBR value was obtained in SD 2, with 17.98% under unsoaked conditions and 25.22% under soaked conditions. For SDM 1 to SDM 5 variations, the highest CBR value was obtained in SDM 2, with 34.72% under unsoaked conditions and 27.97% under soaked conditions. Based on CBR as the main parameter, SDM 2 was identified as the most effective proportion in this study, with a volume change during soaking of 1 div shrinkage at the 96-hour reading. For the supporting parameters, SDM 2 produced a UCS value of 17.36 kPa with a shear failure pattern, a permeability coefficient of 0.008417 cm/s, and direct shear parameters consisting of cohesion of 11.75 kPa and an internal friction angle of 38.36°.
