ABSTRACT
The department room requires a secure access control system providing real-time lecturer availability to support effective academic activities. At the Department of Electrical Engineering, Universitas Riau, conventional room access makes it difficult for students to know lecturer presence. This study designs and implements a door control and lecturer monitoring system based on Raspberry Pi and RFID. The system is built using a Raspberry Pi 4 as the central control and local server, PN532 and MFRC522 RFID readers for user identification, relays, electromagnetic locks (Emlock), push buttons, a Flask API backend, and a localhost-based monitoring website. The research method employed is prototyping, consisting of hardware and software design, system implementation, and testing phases covering functional suitability, reliability, system delay, and usability using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). The results show that the monitoring website successfully displays the real-time presence status of lecturers, and all main system functions operate correctly without any bugs detected during testing. The communication delay testing between the frontend and backend achieved an average of 64.88 ms, which is categorized as excellent based on the ITU-T G.1010 standard. Usability testing indicates that all UEQ aspects achieved Good to Excellent ratings. Furthermore, the PN532 module demonstrates better e-KTP reading capability compared to the MFRC522. Permanent implementation of the system could not be carried out due to installation permit constraints and device durability considerations; however, the system was successfully operated as a limited operational prototype with stable performance throughout the testing period.
