Pengembangan Multimedia Pembelajaran Interaktif Berbasis Discovery Learning Untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Dan Literasi Sains Peserta Didik
This study was motivated by the low level of students’ critical thinking skills and scientific literacy in physics learning. This condition is caused by learning practices that are still teacher-centered, resulting in limited student involvement in analyzing problems, evaluating information, and relating physics concepts to real-life phenomena. In addition, technological advancements in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era demand innovative learning media that can create interactive and student-centered learning experiences. Therefore, this study aimed to develop Discovery Learning-based interactive learning multimedia on the topic of Work and Energy that meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, as well as to determine its effectiveness in improving students’ critical thinking skills and scientific literacy.
This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The multimedia was developed as an Android-based application using the Flutter framework and Firebase database. The product includes Work and Energy learning materials, instructional videos, interactive student worksheets, quizzes, and assessments designed according to the Discovery Learning syntax, namely stimulation, problem statement, data collection, data processing, verification, and generalization. The integration of the Discovery Learning model with interactive multimedia constitutes the novelty of this study, as it was designed to encourage students to discover concepts independently through contextual and meaningful learning activities.
The validation results obtained from subject matter experts, media experts, and instrument experts indicated that the developed multimedia was categorized as highly valid. Furthermore, the results of student and teacher response questionnaires showed that the multimedia was categorized as highly practical. Students perceived the multimedia as easy to use, engaging, and helpful in understanding the learning materials, while teachers considered it easy to operate and supportive of flexible learning implementation. These findings indicate that the developed multimedia is feasible for use in physics learning.
The effectiveness test results revealed that the Discovery Learning-based interactive multimedia was able to improve students’ critical thinking skills. The average pretest score increased from 42.59 to 79.29 in the posttest. The Paired Sample t-Test showed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in students’ critical thinking skills after the implementation of the multimedia.A similar improvement was also observed in students’ scientific literacy. The average scientific literacy score increased from 42.43 in the pretest to 79.71 in the posttest, with a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05). The enhancement of critical thinking skills and scientific literacy occurred because students were actively engaged in observing phenomena, identifying problems, collecting and processing information, and drawing conclusions in accordance with the characteristics of the Discovery Learning model.
Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the Discovery Learning-based interactive multimedia on the topic of Work and Energy fulfills the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Therefore, the developed multimedia is suitable for use as an alternative physics learning medium to support the development of students’ critical thinking skills and scientific literacy in meeting the demands of 21st-century learning.
