Political participation of society is the extent of community participation in implementing their rights and obligations in the political aspects, in this case is the role of society in the legislative elections in 2009.
Public political participation in this study consisted of registration as a voter and the use of voting rights at the legislative elections in 2009. Participation visits from the presfective of social factors and economic factors.
This study is descriptive, where the authors only describe or describe how the political participation of society at Simpang Baru Village visits from their social and economic factors.
In this study, the sampling method was performed using Random Sampling. Of the 10 existing RT taken 10% (ten percent) that is counted as a sub-population 7 RT. Having obtained the sub-population of RT taken as many as 10% of the total number of households selected from the RT.
The results of this study concluded that social factors, which consist of education, participation in the campaign, voting in elections and as well as social relationships / family was not believed to have a significant influence on the political participation of society, while economic factors which consists of types of jobs and higher income levels influence a person to participate in politics. It is believed the increasingly diverse types of work will generate more income levels are relatively high, so that someone tends to not think of basic needs again and time to be used for greater political participation.
Based on the results of the study also concludes that the economic factor is the factor that gives a person the dominant influence of political participation in society.Keyword : participation of politics
