Cocoa (Theobroma cocoa, L) is one of the commodity export potential as
a producer of foreign exchange, so cocoa has an important meaning in the
indonesian economy, which has a huge opportunity for cocoa development since
the rise and the development of agro-industry sector. Cocoa also has a fairly
stable market and prices are relatively expensive, thus imporving the quality of
the result is always done for cocoa stil occupy an important place as a producer of
foreign exchange from non sector.
Successful development in cocoa is largely determined by the availability
of seeds in sufficient quality and of good quality through plant propagation, seed
selection, germination and seedling. Medium and technical maintenance of the
nursery is a mechanism of inter-related and can not be separated, to abtain the
final result of the quality of the cocoa seed varieties. Biofertilizer provided, other
than useful to increase soil fertility is also useful to help make the process of
weathering by microorganisms. The main contents of biological fertilizer are
living things (microorganisms) are favorable for plant growth. Biofertilizers in
addition to improving the quality of shoot growth, flowering and fruiting and fruit
ripening process. As for the purpose of this study to determine the effect of
concentrasion of biological fertilizer and sawdust as well as the best combination
on the growth and development of cocoa seedlings. This study took place in the
area of the yard in the area Gunungtua, Ditrict Padangbolak, Old Fields North
District, North Sumatera. This research was conducted in March until Juni 2010.
