The economic potential of resources in the fisheries sector is estimated to reach US $ 82 billion per year. This potential includes: fishery potential of US $ 15.1 billion per year, the potential for marine aquaculture amounted to US $ 46.7 billion per year, the potential of public waters for US $ 1.1 billion per year, the potential for aquaculture $ 10 billion per year, the potential freshwater aquaculture amounted to US $ 5.2 billion per year, and the potential for marine biotechnology at US $ 4 billion per year.
This study aims to see how strong the position of Indonesian fishery commodities in the market. This study uses Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), which is one method used to measure the commodity comparative advantage in certain markets. Results of research in the period 2009-2013 at five fishery products with HS code 0301, HS 0302, HS 0303, HS 0304.
From the calculation of index RCA some of which have competitiveness while some commodities tends to decline and fluctuate. Therefore, to improve the competitiveness of Indonesian fishery products need several businesses such as promotion in domestic markets and foreign countries, improve the quality of infrastructure encourage accelerated with establishment, as well as reducing the entry fee rates supporting materials for the processing industry in the country.
