Pengaruh Daya Iradiasi Gelombang Mikro Terhadap Kualitas Karbon Aktif Dari Serabut Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit
Activated carbon had succesfully been made from fibres of oil palm empty fruit bunches prepared by pre-carbonisation and KOH activation with microwave assisted process. The microwave irradiations power were varied by 450 watt, 540 watt, and 630 watt. The aim of this research was to study the characteristics of oil palm empty fruit bunches fibres as the activated carbon. The characteristics of activated carbon were represented by yield, methylene blue adsorption, cristalinity properties, and surface morphology of the activated carbon. The results showed that the activated carbon had yield value 24,27%, 23,2%, and 19,95% for each variation of the power irradiation. The adsorptions of the activated carbon to methylene blue which were 75,55 mg/g, 76,6 mg/g, and 86,6 mg/g. Data of X-rays diffraction indicated that all the activated carbon were in a semicrystalline form, with the presence narrow peak showed by 2 at 21,492o, and 43,362o. The analysis of SEM showed by the increase of the irradiation power would produce more pores and more regular pore structure which contained of C atoms were 61,59%, 75,38%, and 77,87%. Overall the calculated and analyzed results showed that the variation of the microwave irradiation influenced the qualities of the activated carbon.
