Pengaruh Konsentrasi Aktivator Kaliumhidroksida Terhadap Kualitas Karbon Aktif Dari Serabut Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit
This research presents an activated carbon made from fibres of palm oil empty fruit bunches prepared by pre-carbonization and KOH activation. The activation was performedusing irradiation microwave process at various concentrations of KOH 1M, 2M, and 3M respectively. The physicalcharacteristicsof the activated carbon were represented byyield, methylene blue adsorption, cristalinity properties and surface morphology of the activated carbon. Results show the optimum activated carbonobtained at 2MKOH concentrationwith a value of 21.17% and 90.60mg/g methylene blue adsorption. The X-ray diffraction indicates that the entire activated carbons were in a semi-crystalline form revealing narrow peak 2θ at 21.115° and 43.417°with layers height (Lc) of 2.419 nm. The samples were thenanalyzed usingSEM and depicted the increasingof theKOHconcentrationsproduced more quantity of pores and structure regularity with 68.47% carbon content.Overall, the calculated and analyzed results showed the qualities of the activated carbon was influenced by the KOH concentrations.
