Pembuatan Karbon Aktif Dari Arang Cangkang Buah Ketapang Menggunakan Aktivator Koh Dan Iradiasi Gelombang Mikro
Activated carbon had successfully been made from shell of Terminalia Catappa L by carbonization process in 3 hours. Chemical activation performed using KOH activating agent with the mass ratio of the activated carbon to that of activator was 4:1, 4:2, 4:3. Investigate the characteristics of Terminalia Catappa L based activated carbon using a Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, isothermal nitrogen adsorption and absorption of methylene blue. The analysis of energy dispersive X-ray showed that the carbon element was obtained in range of 58-61%. Characterization of X-Rays Diffraction indicated that all the activated carbon sample were in a semi-crystalline form, with the XRD peak observed at 2θ of 22,194˚ and 41,0590. Microstructure analysis of the sample showed that the layer width (La) was inversely proportional to the layer height (Lc). The largest surface area was resulted from 4:3 KA sample with a surface area of 311,93 m2/g and a high absorption of 84.383 mg/g. in conclutions the amount of KOH activator affect the quality of activated carbon produced. Keyword : Activated carbon, potassium hydroxide, microwave irradiation, surface area, methylene blue adsorption.
