Gambaran Konsep Diri Penderita Diabetes Melitus Di Puskesmas Rejosari
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by an increase in blood glucose concentration accompanied by the appearance of typical symptoms. The complications that occur in people with DM are not only about all organs of the body but DM patients will also feel at a critical stage characterized by physical, social and psychological imbalances. This critical stage will continue to change their concept. Self-concept is all ideas, thoughts, beliefs and convictions that individuals know about themselves and influence the individuals in dealing with others. The study aimed to describe the self-concept of people with diabetes mellitus. This research used descriptive research design. This research was conducted at Rejosari Health Center, Pekanbaru City. The sample was 45 respondents taken based on inclusion criteria using purposive sampling technique. A questionnaire was used as the intrument in the study. The analysis applied was univariate analysis utilized to determine the frequency distribution. The results showed 25 respondents had a positive self-concept (55.6%). Which in detail a positive self-image were 25 resondents (55.6%), ideal self-positive were 27 respondents (60.0%), positive self-esteem were 28 respondents (62.2%), positive self-role were 22 respondents (48,9%), and positive self-identity were 26 respondents (57.8%). It is expected that the results of this study can add information about how DM patients should always have a positive outlook on themselves, how they should behave, care for their illness and always positive roles in family and social life.
