People living with HIV (PLHIV) often get stigma and rejection from society, such as rejection in the field of work, education and health. So that PLHIV often hides its identity as an HIV-people with so that they can be received in the unwrapped. This requires PLHIV to regulate its behaviour and attitude when in the environment of people who do not know its status. This research aims to know the self-presentation of people with HIV (PLHIV) in Pekanbaru
This research uses qualitative descriptive methods with a phenomenological approach, data collection techniques consist of observations, in-depth interviews and documentation. The subject was taken in the study using a snowball technique with a number of four informant. For data analysis techniques using the Miles and Huberman method.
Results in this study showed that the front stage (front stage) of people with HIV (PLHIV) consists of setting (place) that is when PLHIV is at home, campus or workplace they often avoid the topic of talks about health and lying To be able to go to the hospital. For the manner (style or attitude) of PLHIV, they are reluctant to blame, have a spiritual attitude, be cold to others instead of PLHIV, maintain health, and never offer food to others. For the appearance (appearance) of PLHIV looks neat and clean, wearing long-sleeved clothing, and for women using the hijab, while traveling always use a mask and also when the condition hurts. The back stage is where PLHIV behaves according to the true identity, they are gathered together with the support group, who prefer to be alone in the room when they are at home. For the behavior and attitude of PLHIV to take ARV medicine when again alone, Check up the hospital alone and feel happier and excited if you get together with your fellow PLHIV friends, they will also be more open and freely when meeting others PLHIV, men tend to be more feminine. For their appreance (appearance) they are neatly dressed with a long sleeve shirt and an incontrusive color
