Preparasi Dan Karakterisasi Adsorben Kulit Batang Sagu (Metroxylon Sagoo) Dengan Aktivator Asam Sulfat
Sago bark is one of the waste produced from the process of processing sago starch and so far it has only been used as fuel of left without processing. The purposes of this study were to prepare the powder and activated carbon using sulfuric acid with variation ratio of weight 1 : 1, 1 : 2, 1 : 3 and determine the quality of adsorbent from powder and activated carbon sago bark based on SNI 06-3730-1995. The quality of the adsorbent from powder and activated carbon was tested through characterization including water content, ash content, adsorption of iodine, adsorption of methylene blue and the determination of functional groups was analyzed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Based on the results of this study found that the variation of activators have different qualities, the best quality powder was obtained using sulfuric acid activator 1:2 with characterization of water content 2.67%, ash content 1.50%, adsorption of iodine 261.10 mg/g and adsorption of methylene blue 4.79 mg/g and the best quality activated carbon was obtained using sulfuric acid activator 1:1 with characterization of water content 2.54%, ash content 3.20%, adsorption of iodine 246.18 mg/g, and adsorption of methylene blue 3.98 mg/g. In this study, it can be concluded that the quality of the adsorbent from powder and activated carbon sago bark where is not fulfill the requirements of SNI 06-3730-1995.
