Preparasi Dan Karakterisasi Bubuk Dan Arang Aktif Dari Batang Pisang Kepok Dan Pisang Raja Dengan Aktivator Natrium Hidroksida
Kepok and Raja banana are type of banana plant that is most consumed and widely planted in Indonesia, especially Riau. Banana stem is a part of the banana plant that is generally used as animal feed or just thrown away. It can be an environmental problem through the emission of foul odours when it is left to decompose. Banana stem contain 27.8% lignin; 43.3% cellulose and 20.6% hemicellulose. Presence of cellulose in banana stem will give porous that can be used as an alternative adsorbent. The aims of this study were to prepared the powder and actived carbon of kepok and Raja banana stem and characterized the banana stem of Kepok and Raja which are activated by NaOH in various concentration (0.1; 0.2 and 0.3 M). The characterization based on SNI-06-3730-1995, include moisture and ash content, iodium and methylene blue adsorption. The result of characterization showed that the highest adsorption of iodium in Raja banana stem powder activated by NaOH 0.1 M is 503.16 mg/g and the highest adsorption of methylene blue and surface area of activated carbon Raja Banana stem 0.3 M of NaOH were 19.70 mg/g and 73.04 m2/g, respectivaley. Characterization of FTIR showed functional group as –OH, –CH dan C=O. This study showed that powder and activated carbon of Kepok and Raja banana stem was not fill the requirement of SNI-06-3730-1995.
