Karakteristik Kertas Dari Bahan Baku Batang Pisang Dengan Proses Soda Semi Mekanis
Paper is something that is often used in everyday life consisting of cellulose and hemicellulose fibers found in nature. One of the wastes that can be processed into an alternative material for making paper is banana stem waste. Banana stem waste contains cellulose levels of 63% -65% so that it can be used for paper making. This study uses a semi-mechanical soda method. The fixed variable in this study is the weight of the raw material of the banana stem which is 500 gr. The changing variables in this study were the concentration of cooking solution 10%, 15%, 20% and the length of cooking time 60 minutes and 90 minutes. This study conducted a paper test such as water content test, kappa, thickness, tear strength, tensile strength, and gramature test. The lowest water content was obtained at a concentration of 20% cooking solution and 90 minutes cooking time was 5.01%, the lowest kappa number was obtained at a concentration of 20% cooking solution with a cooking time of 90 minutes which was 17.36, the highest thickness was obtained at 15% concentration with 60 minutes cooking time is 505.75 µm, the highest tensile strength is found at 15% concentration with 90 minutes cooking time which is 9.24 kN/m, the highest tear strength is obtained at 15% concentration with 90 minutes cooking time which is 6439 mN and highest gramature obtained at a concentration of 15% with a cooking time of 60 minutes which is 107.64 g / m2. From the parameters tested, pulp from raw material for banana stems can be used as food packaging paper.
