Pengaruh Ukuran Bola Milling Terhadap Sifat Magnetik Dan Komposisi Pasir Pantai Arta Pariaman Sumatera Barat
The effect of ball size of milling on magnetic properties and composition of Arta Sand Beach Pariaman has been studied. The sand beach was processed utilizing the iron sand separator to obtain the concentrate I. Concentrate I was milled by Ball Milling method using various ball sizes such as 0,3, 0,5, 0,8, and 1,5 cm. Separation of magnetic and non-magnetic particles resulting from Ball Milling carried out using NdFeB magnets to obtain concentrate II. The magnetic induction of the sample was measured using 2500 winding solenoids, a length of 10 cm and a diameter of 3 cm. Magnetic induction of solenoid without a core was measured as a function of applied current 100, 200, 400, 600 and 800 mA for a fixed distance of 1 mm from the tip of solenoid and as a function of distance 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 mm. The calculation results show that the value of Magnetic Susceptibility increases with the increasing size of the Milling ball from (3362,561 - 9886,570) × 10-5. This value is in the Ilmenite mineral (FeTiO3) interval that is (220 - 38.000) × 10-5. Identification of sample composition was done using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). The results show that the amount of magnetic elements Fe increases from 6,231% up to 49,203% as the size of the Milling ball increases. The amount of elements Si, Mg, Al, C and K and other elements decreases. However, the amount of other non-magnetic elements such as Ti increases in value. This is being interpretated as due to agglomeration between Ti particle and Fe grains. This result is confirmed by the value of the Magnetic Susceptibility.
