Upaya Restorasi Lahan Gambut Di Kabupaten Kepulauan Meranti
Peatlands restoration policy is a concrete step taken by the government to prevent and reduce the rate of forest and land fires. Based on Presidential Regulation No. 01 2016 about the Peat Restoration Agency, in this case the Peat Restoration Agency (Badan Restorasi Gambut; BRG) has full authority over peatland restoration programs and cooperate with provincial Peat Restoration Teams (Tim Restorasi Gambut Daerah), JICA Japan, UNDP, Riau University, WALHI, and District Government of Meranti Islands. To improve the peat ecosystem in Indonesia, the peatlands restoration program will be implemented until 2020.
Author uses descriptive-qualitative approach. The primary data is obtained by interviews and observations, secondary data is obtained by collecting data from official documents. Author analyzes the research with data collection methods, tringulation techniques and extends the field involvements.
The result of the research is, so far, the efforts of peatlands restoration program in Kepulauan Meranti Regency which have been done are The Rewetting Program which includes the canal drilling, drilling well and installation of telemetry equipment from BPPT namely Morpalaga and JICA Japan named Sesame Telemetri Logger, and for the Revegetation Program so far is only a tree nursery program and the realization of the International Peat Laboratory, while the Revitalization Program has not been realized since the implementation will be taken over in 2017. The efforts have not been maximized because it is influenced by the lack of understanding on the conceptualization of peatlands restoration program, the institutional preparedness of the implementers and the support of local figures both of formal and informal at provincial, district and village level.
