Fenomena Komunikasi Penari Striptis Di Kota Batam – Kepulauan Riau

For striptease actors, their profession is seen as an expression of art in the entertainment world they are engaged in. There are a freedom of expressions, freedom to explore themselves-potential without binding rules in work and also the professionalism of work they enjoy which is making them undergo the profession happily even though they often feel bored with the consequences they receive but the consequences are not a burden for the striptease actors. Similarly with the meaning of striptease actors, they see themselves as ordinary women but it is just a distinguishing profession. They sometime had a low self-esteem, dirty-self, a sexy and beautiful self that was liked by men but they returned it to the context of professional’s risk and it were the destiny of life because they have chosen an anti-mainstream decisions. This study aims to determine the motives, self-meaning, profession meaning and experience of communication of striptease dancers in the city of Batam - Kepulauan Riau Province.
This study used qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach. The research subjects consisted of three striptease dancers in Batam City who were selected using the snowball researcher technique. This study used data collection techniques of observation, in-depth interviews, and the documentation of research.
The results of the study showed that first, the motives of striptease dancers in Batam City consist of motives karena (Because Motive) which are economic, love and affection, disappointment and education. Whereas the current motive is to fulfill daily needs and hope motives (in order to motive), namely to continue to exist, get a better job and get married. Second, self-meaning given by striptease dancers, that is weak-self, regretful-self, helpless-self and beautiful-and-sexy-self. Third, the meaning of their profession as a striptease dancer is in the form of life style, job professionalism and self-expression. Fourth, communication experiences are categorized into two parts which are a pleasant communication experience in the form of acceptance from families who already know, support from friends and also the ignorance attitide from the neighborhood and there a take-and-give service from customers while, the unpleasant communication experience is in the form of interrogation from the family, insults from the people and/ environment and customers who are often arrogant.
