Karakteristik Briket Arang Dari Limbah Kulit Buah Pinang Menggunakan Komposisi Jenis Perekat
The necessaries of energy and fuel in Indonesia will be increase every year due to the increasing of development and population growth. The government encourages people to do energy savings and looking for the alternative of energy resources. One of the alternative energy is biomass energy, biomass can be processed and used as an alternative fuel, for example in the form of charcoal briquettes. This research aims to determine the characteristics of charcoal briquettes from the skin waste of Areca Catechu fruit. This research was conducted experimentally using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and five replications and continued with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at level of 5%. The treatments were P1 (Tapioca adhesives 5% : Sago adhesives 0%), P2 (Tapioca adhesives 0% : Sago adhesives 5%), P3 (Tapioca adhesives 3% : Sago adhesives 2%), P4 (Tapioca adhesives 2,5% : Sago adhesives 2,5%), and P5 (Tapioca adhesive 2% : Sago adhesives 3%). The result showed that the skin waste of Areca Catechu fruit can be used as raw material for charcoal briquettes. Average water content and calorific value meet SNI 1-6235-2000 criteria with an average value of water content of 3.8% and calorific value of 5602.18 cal / gr but at the volatile content, carbon ash content, and carbon bounded content that meet SNI is only found in P1 with a volatile content 14.2%, carbon ash content 7.9% and carbon bounded content 77.8%. So that the charcoal briquettes that meet SNI on all characteristics are in P1 (Tapioca adhesive 5%: Sago adhesive 0%).
