HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that causes AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) HIV / AIDS can drastically reduce the immune system so that it can cause diseases, bacteria, viruses, and other infections that attack the human body and this virus can be transmitted. It cannot be denied that there are still many people in Pekanbaru City who do not understand how to transmit the HIV / AIDS virus, they consider physical contact such as shaking causing the transmission of the HIV virus, this is what creates stigma among the community that it is better to avoid ODHA. This study aims to find out the communicator's persuasive communication strategy by the PMI VCT unit in changing the stigma of Pekanbaru city people to PLWHA and persuasive communication techniques conducted by the PMI VCT unit in changing the stigma of Pekanbaru city people to PLWHA
This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. This research was conducted at the PMI VCT Unit in the Riau province of Pekanbaru. There were five informants taken through purposive sampling and engineering techniques for this study. The types and sources of data are obtained through primary data and secondary data. Data collection is done by observation to participants, interviews, and documentation. This study uses interactive miles and huberman data analysis by checking the validity of the data done through an extension of participation and triangulation.
The results of this study indicate that the Communication Strategy used by the PMI VCT Unit in changing the stigma of the community towards PLWHA is serious in conveying the message persuader has self-confidence when appearing in public, hospitality, tranquility, displaying simplicity, choosing the right communication media and utilizing activities as a means of communication in changing the stigma of the community of Pekanbaru to PLWHA. The persuasive communication technique of the PMI VCT unit in changing the stigma of the community to change the stigma of the community towards PLWHA is to look for similarities in viewpoints, show credibility, make comparisons with developed countries, ask questions and listen, and communicate styles that are in accordance with people's character.
