Karakteristik Pemilihan Kayu Untuk Jalur Berdasarkan Pengetahuan Masyarakat Di Kabupaten Kuantan Singingi
ABSTRACT
A tradition that still exists is Pacu Jalur at Kuantan Singingi Regency. Jalur is like a long boat made from intact tree trunks, without being split, chopped or joined together. During this time, the community cut wood from the forest without replanting, so that the availability of wood resources is reduced if it is used continuously. There are many types of wood, but it must be known that the criteria / properties of suitable wood are used as raw material for the Jalur, so that later the tree species or wood-producing plant can be retained by reforestation. Pauh Angit Village uses Kureh / Kuras wood (Dryobalanops spp) as a Jalur Siposan Rimbo material. This wood is a durable wood class II-III and strong class II-I. Has a low cracking strength and moderate hardness so that it is easy to make lines. While the villages of Kopah and Pulau Kopung use Meranti Batu wood (Shorea platyclados) for their Jalur, namely Limbago Sati Rantau Kuantan and Lilitan Akar Bunga Merah. Wood Meranti Batu belongs to the Shorea spp type, which has a durable class III and a strong class III. The properties of wood that can be used as a raw material for jalur have a tree height of 25 - 35 m; diameter of the tree 60 - 200 cm; wood length of 21-30 m; wood straightness is 80% and has a durable class and high strength wood class. The most important factor in winning the Pacu Jalur tradition is in terms of athletes (Anak Pacu), but the magical aspect cannot be viewed separately from this Pacu Jalur tradition. Because, according to him, a magical aspect are 'spices' that are in the pacu jalur tradition.
