Studi Penggunaan Asam Valproat Pada Penyandang Epilepsi Di Rsud Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau
Epilepsy was defined as a neurological disorder characterized by minimal of two unprovoked seizures with interval of more than 24 hours. Epilepsy therapy is typically characterized by taking medication for a long period of time, years or even lifetime. Valproic acid is one of first line antiepileptic drug that can be used in all types of epilepsy, especially idiopathic generalized epilepsy. The purpose of this study was to determine valproic acid use in people with epilepsy at Arifin Achmad General Hospital of Riau Province. The type of this study was observational descriptive using primary data and secondary data. The study subjects used was 20 peoples that were use of valproic acid therapy. The highest of characteristic in people with epilepsy was 18-25 years (35%), male (55%), generalized seizure (65%) and all study subjects had been diagnosed with epilepsy ≥2 years (100%). The most widely used type of therapy was combination (85%) with the most use of valproic acid in combination of three (valproic acid, clobazam and phenytoin) was (25%), dose of 500 mg/day (35%), frequency of administration twice a day (60%), all study subjects had used valproic acid ≥2 years (100%) and all study subjects with pattern of use is permanent (100%). The seizure frequency < once a month and ≥ once a month has same (50%), seizure frequency < once a month was highest in the use of combination valproic acid (52,94%) and seizure frequency ≥ once a month was highest in the use of single valproic acid (66,67%). The dose and frequency of administration of valproic acid are in accordance with the guidelines for the management of epilepsy.
