Allergic rhinitis is a type of inflammation in the nose which occurs when the nasal mucosa is exposed with allergen through specific IgE. This disease can occur in children with symptoms that affect sleep quality, fatigue during the day and sleepiness so it can interfere the activities at school. In 2007, the prevalence rate of allergic rhinitis was 24.3% in Indonesia and 22.8% in Riau province. This study was aimed to determine the incidence rate and characteristics of allergic rhinitis in the children at SDN 001 located in Buluh Cina village, Siak Hulu subdistrict, Kampar regency. The method in this study was descriptive with a cross-sectional study design. In this study, sampling was done by proportional random sampling on 100 students of SDN 001 Buluh Cina Village, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The data were obtained by using ISAAC and WHO-ARIA questionnaires. The result of this research showed that the incidence rate of allergic rhinitis in children at SDN 001 Buluh Cina Village was 22%. It showed that Allergic rhinitis occured more often in male children (64%) rather than females, and it was classified as mild (68%) and intermittent (78%). Based on the WHO-ARIA classification of mild intermittent allergic rhinitis, this study was found in 45%.
