Studi Penggunaan Fenitoin Pada Penyandang Epilepsi Di Rsud Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau
Epilepsy is a chronic disorder of brain that characterized by a recurrent epileptic seizure over 24 hours which arise without provocation. Phenytoin is a first-line antiepileptic drug that is widely used because it is very effective, especially for partial seizures and generalized clonic tonics. The purpose of this research is to know the usage of phenytoin in people with epilepsy at Arifin Achmad general hospital of Riau Province. The research used was descriptive observational method that using primary data from interviews with patients or the patient's family with the guidance of research instruments and secondary data was from medical records and prescription sheets. The results of the study of 35 research subjects using phenytoin is the most age 26-35 years (37.1%), male (57.1%), general types of seizure (62.9%), and duration of diagnosis ≥2 years (88.6%). The most common usage of phenytoin in people with epilepsy is combination (85.7%), a dose of 300 mg/day (51.4%), frequency of administration three times a day (51.4%), duration of use mostly ≥2 years (82.9%) and the pattern of therapy are all constant (100%). The highest frequency of seizures ≥1x/ month (74.3%). It can be concluded that the most use of phenytoin therapy is a combination with the dose and frequency of administration in accordance with the guidelines for the management of epilepsy according to PERDOSSI.
