Implementasi Jurnalisme Advokasi Film Dokumenter Sexy Killers
Sexy Killers documentary starting from the issue of environmental
damage circulating in the community, which is the environmental problems due to
coal mining in East Kalimantan. The involvement of central officials in
controlling the shares of coal companies and electric steam power plant also
caused the weakening of law enforcement in Indonesia towards companies that
violated post-mining regulations. Watchdoc through Sexy Killers documentary is
here to secure the rights of Indonesian citizens who are unable to speak.
Therefore this research aims to find out the application of advocacy journalism
elements through the focus of the news, the issues raised, key informants, work
priorities, principles of legality and post-loading expectations in the documentary
film Sexy Killers.
This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach.
Research subjects were determined by purposive sampling. Data were obtained
by interviewing four informants; the director, executive producer, cameraman
and editor, and also observation then documentation. To conduct data validity,
the authors use source triangulation techniques, comparing or checking the
degree of trust in information obtained from different sources.
The results showed that Watchdoc in reporting for the Sexy Killers
documentary was based on journalistic principles and said to advocate, even
though there was one element of advocacy journalism that was not applied, which
is the principle of legality because all coverage was done openly. Basically, the
work of advocacy journalists is different, not wanting to be shackled with
journalism works in general, the Watchdoc team only wants to record the side
that is not covered by the mainstream media and help advocate for the rights of
oppressed communities.
