Family planning is a national scale program to reduce birth rates and control population growth in a country. Family planning programs are specifically designed to create progress, stability and economic, social and spiritual well-being for every resident. The form of the family planning program is the use of contraceptives to regulate birth spacing, delay or prevent pregnancy.
Riau Province is one of the regions that has a high birth rate while contraceptive users are also high. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of the family planning program in controlling the population in Riau Province. This study uses secondary data in Riau Province in 2015 - 2019. The effectiveness of the family planning program in controlling the population is analyzed based on the target approach used to measure the extent to which the family planning program targets are realized compared to the family planning program targets. The analysis technique used is descriptive qualitative.
Based on the results of research conducted, the family planning program is very effective in controlling the population in Riau Province, which is reflected in the increasing trend of contraceptive acceptors and decreasing population growth rates. And the effectiveness of family planning programs based on the target total birth rate is effective, while the effectiveness of family planning programs based on the prevalence target of modern contraceptives, active family planning participants using long-term contraceptive methods and withdrawal of contraception are very effective. However, it is different from the effectiveness of family planning programs based on the unmet need target which is still ineffective in its implementation.
