Representasi Lesbian, Gay, Biseksual, Transgender Dalam Lirik Lagu Take Me To Church Karya Hozier
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) have long drawn debate about the normal or abnormal behavior. According to Sherry Wolf in her book, Sexuality and Socialism: History, Politics, and Theory of LGBT Liberation (2009:9). The number of violence experienced by LGBT is very worrying, including the murder. Regarding that, not a few musicians who raised the theme of LGBT into their songs. One of them is the song sung by Hozier as a singer that is quite phenomenal. In 2014, he released a fairly controversial single entitled Take Me To Church. Nick Messitte said that Take Me To Church was the most unique, interesting and terrible song on the top 40 most played charts on the radio. This study aims to find out the meaning of song lyrics both in terms of denotation, connotation and myths contained in Hozier's Take Me To Church song lyrics.
The method used in this study uses descriptive qualitative. Using the theory of semiotics by Roland Barthes, the researcher will also explore the song with the concept of discrimination. Data collection techniques in this research are Observation, Documentation and Literature Study, using the lyrics of the song Take Me To Church by Hozier as the subject of his research. Then use Triangulation for data validity techniques in the lyrics of the song.
The results showed that LGBT was represented as getting rejection from society. The forms of rejection include community pressure triggered by negative sentiments in the name of religion to LGBT people. This causes the existence of LGBT to often get rejection within the community and their rights are excluded. Negative sentiment also makes LGBT get violent treatment.
