The level of individual competence in social media Instagram can be seen using the theory of individual competence framework, this theory is used to see a person's ability to use and utilize media, including the ability to produce, analyze, communicate messages through the media. Currently the existence of the Instagram application has been widely used as an application for disseminating information and advertisements both from personal or business accounts, the dissemination of information via social media obtained from various sources quickly can have certain effects, either negative or positive, so it is necessary to look at the level of competence. individual in social media Instagram and the purpose of this research is to find out how much individual competence in social media Instagram among Pekanbaru Communication Science students.
The purpose of this study is to determine the extent of individual competence in social media Instagram among Pekanbaru Communication Science students. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative method. The data collection technique used a questionnaire. The population is students of communication science in Pekanbaru with 98 respondents. The sampling technique used was purposive random sampling of respondents. The data analysis technique used a percentage statistical formula.
The results showed that the level of individual competence in social media Instagram was in the medium level category with a score of 50%. This indicates that the level of individual competence in social media Instagram of students of Communication Science Pekanbaru is good. Meaning is Pekanbaru Communication Science students have the ability to operate the Instagram social media, high enough. The ability to analyze Instagram soial media and evaluate Instagram social media content is good and active in producing Instagram social media content and participatory questions.
