Komunikasi Interpersonal Terapis Dan Penyandang Autism Spectrum Disorder Dalam Mengembangkan Kemampuan Komunikasi Di Pusat Layanan Autis Provinsi Riau

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder that occurs in people that can be detected since the child is 6 months old. People with autism spectrum disorder have a major problem and it spesifically is communication problems. People with autism spectrum disorder find it difficult or even unable to communicate normally with other people. To overcome this disorder, people with autism spectrum disorder must be trained to communicate interpersonal with other people. Interpersonal communication helps people with autism spectrum disorder develop their communication skills and train them to interact with their environment. The aim of this study was to analyze how openness, empathy and equality of therapists and people with autism spectrum disorders in developing communication skills.
This study uses qualitative methods with purposive techniques as informants. There are seven informants as research subjects, while interpersonal communication is the object of the study. Meanwhile, data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. Then the data validity technique was in the form of participation extension and triangulation.
The results of this study indicate the openness, empathy and equality of therapists and people with autism spectrum disorders that support the development of their communication skills already have openness with their therapists by being able to maintain eye contact when talking to other people, being able to play together and do the instructions given by the therapist. Furthermore, people also have empathy by understanding other people's feelings, they already know the causes and effects of an action, then people are also able to understand other people's expressions and emotions and understand the behavior of people around them. In the terms of equality, people already have the desire to play together with other people.
