Analisis Resepsi Penyandang Pseudobulbar Affect Dalam Film Joker
The Joker film is a film that gets high enthusiasm from the Indonesian people. The Joker film tells the story of Arthur Fleck, who has pseudobulbar affect and is ignored by his environment until he becomes a criminal. Even though it sounds strange in Indonesia, there are 2 million people with pseudobulbar affect in the United States, while in Indonesia there are less than one hundred and fifty thousand people with pseudobulbar affect. The Joker film reaped a lot of controversy until it was refused screening in a city in the United States. But the Joker also got many achievements in the world of film. Audiences who watch the Joker film will bring out meanings according to their cultural and social backgrounds. This study aims to determine the dominant reading position, negotiated reading, oppositional reading of people with pseudobulbar affect in the Joker film.
This research uses descriptive qualitative research that focuses on reception analysis. The research data was obtained through a process of observation, in-depth interviews and documentation with five informants from 2 different educational backgrounds who were selected using purposive techniques, namely Fairuzatul, Iliyanda, Citra, Erliando and Ariq. The data analysis technique used is the reception analysis method which consists of data collection, analysis of interpretation and reception. Meanwhile, the data validity checking technique uses source triangulation.
The first research result is that the five informants perceive or accept and agree with the message conveyed (dominant) towards people with pseudobulbar affect in the Joker film. Second, some informants have meaning by accepting or agreeing with the messages conveyed in the Joker film but providing some negotiated and rejecting messages (oppositional) from some messages with pseudobulbar affect in the Joker film based on their references. The difference in how informants perceive the pseudobulbar affect in the Joker film is due to several factors, namely age, education, experience and culture.
